The big goal is creating a democratic resource based economy. Something in the future that will allow humanity to organize each individual human's passions with the resources from our planet and solar system.
AI and quantum computing together could create a world where every persons recorded thoughts, about what they want to see in their world, the work and endeavors they find meaningful for them in their community -- all become part of the way we use and allocate resources. This would take a long time to organize and set up. But we can start to dream of how this world will work now.
A transition to this kind of society would require practicing democracy. I can see a world eventually where people get to vote on local and regional projects. I can see people choosing to work to automate the dirty, difficult but necessary jobs. I can see projects that link fresh food to every mouth on the planet. A world where people can devote their time to things they really believe matter.
So far the only way people have claimed to be able to ration, or manage our resources in a free way has been through free market customs. But imagine a world where we take inventory of all of our worlds resources, where we build an "earth resources database". Imagine that its many people's responsibilities to take inventory of resources and to forecast yearly recurring resources, to keep this database updated yearly or as needed.
And imagine that this information is used to ask an AI to create a list of projects and allocation of resources so that every person's needs and desires are being met. Of course the values in our society are so skewed by materialism, classism, that this would never work today -- if everyone chose to be a capitalist, sports player, banker, artist and did not value the work that makes society possible. So a shift in values needs to happen. A shift where we value our the health of our people and communities. I think most people already value these things more than materialistic or ego driven goals.
Now the only thing we need is imagination and learning to use these new tools for the betterment, self actualization, and care of ALL people and life on this planet.
